Provisioning & Discovery

Once you have connected a Cloud Credential (or if you are managing on-premise hardware), you can begin adding servers to your RasnuOS Organization.

There are two primary methods for adding servers: Automated Provisioning and Manual Discovery.

Automated Provisioning (Cloud-Native)

If you have linked a provider like AWS or DigitalOcean, you can spin up entirely new servers directly from the RasnuOS dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Infrastructure > Servers > Provision New.
  2. Select your connected Cloud Credential.
  3. Choose your desired Region (e.g., us-east-1 or fra1).
  4. Select the Instance Size (e.g., 4 vCPU, 8GB RAM).
  5. (Optional) Select a Server Template to automatically apply a base configuration upon boot.

When you click deploy, RasnuOS natively calls the cloud provider's API, spins up the server, securely injects the RasnuOS Agent via cloud-init, and waits for the Agent to dial home via mTLS. The server is ready to use in under 60 seconds.

Manual Discovery (Bring Your Own Hardware)

If you are running physical bare-metal servers, a local homelab, or unsupported cloud instances, you can use the Manual Discovery method.

Instead of RasnuOS automatically booting the server via API, you simply run our 10-second installation script on your existing machine.

Please see our dedicated Quickstart: Installation Guide for the exact commands to run across Linux, macOS, and Windows.

The Discovery Handshake

When the script runs on any OS, it does not arbitrarily download bloated dependencies. It simply:

  1. Detects your underlying OS and architecture (e.g., Linux ARM64).
  2. Downloads the single, static Go binary of the RasnuOS Agent.
  3. Generates a unique cryptographic private key.
  4. Dials os.rasnu.com and registers itself to your Organization.

Within seconds, the server will dynamically appear in your RasnuOS dashboard, fully authenticated and ready for orchestration.
