Quickstart: Installation

Installing the RasnuOS Agent is designed to be completely frictionless. Because the agent is a single compiled Go binary, it requires zero external dependencies (no Node.js, no Python, no PHP required on the host).

You can install the agent on almost any operating system in under 10 seconds.

1. Linux Installation

For Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, RHEL, and Arch. The installation script automatically detects your distribution, CPU architecture (x64 vs ARM), and systemd configuration.

SSH into your server and run:

curl -sL https://os.rasnu.com/install.sh | sudo bash -s -- --token=YOUR_SECURE_TOKEN

2. macOS Installation

For local developer environments or macOS build servers (Intel and Apple Silicon/M-Series). The installer configures launchd to keep the agent running in the background.

Open your macOS Terminal and run:

curl -sL https://os.rasnu.com/install-mac.sh | sudo bash -s -- --token=YOUR_SECURE_TOKEN

3. Windows Server & Desktop

For Windows Server 2019/2022 or Windows 10/11 developer laptops. The installer securely downloads the .exe and registers it as a native Windows Background Service.

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

iwr -useb https://os.rasnu.com/install.ps1 | iex
RasnuOSAgent.exe install --token="YOUR_SECURE_TOKEN"
Start-Service -Name "RasnuOSAgent"

What Happens During Installation?

Regardless of your operating system, the installer performs the following identical steps:

1. Binary Download: Fetches the single, lightweight binary.
2. Key Generation: Generates a unique cryptographic private key securely on your local disk.
3. mTLS Handshake: Dials the Control Plane (os.rasnu.com) to receive a signed Client Certificate.
4. Daemonization: Registers with the OS service manager (systemd, launchd, or Windows Services) to ensure the agent automatically restarts if the machine reboots.

Within 5 seconds of running the command, your server will dynamically appear in your RasnuOS Cloud Dashboard.
